We really enjoyed this garden landscaping and renovation project in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. The customers wanted a spacious, natural and modern feel with plenty of patio space for their outdoor table tennis and social events. The previous garden was tired-looking and didn’t make the most of the space, so we were asked to create a garden that increased the family’s quality of life and complemented their lovely house, so that’s what we delivered!
LG Pro Landscaping does a lot of work in Walton-on-Thames, from landscaping jobs through to regular garden maintenance. The customers checked out our gallery, 5* reviews and recent projects, and then got in touch for a free quote. We then popped round for a chat and understood their vision straight away. Using inspiration from some of our previous garden renovations, we worked with the customers to put together a modern-looking garden design that matched their vision.
The customers were keen to stick to natural turf, as opposed to artificial grass – we’re specialists in both so this choice is down to the customer. We’re always happy to discuss the pros and cons of each though and show you photos of our different types of projects. We even do some garden renovations where people want a natural lawn section and an artificial grass section, to get the best of both worlds.
Back to our garden renovation in Walton-on-Thames. The customers were also really happy with the large split-level patio design. We ran through some stone options and they made a great choice – white porcelain stone with modern black stone borders. For the natural lawn, they also wanted a subsurface irrigation system. This is where we install a network of pipes beneath the turf that deliver water straight to the roots of the grass. This type of drip irrigation system is a highly efficient way to keep your lawn looking healthy and green. With the fluctuating weather patterns in the UK, installing a subsurface irrigation system allows for greater control and consistency when it comes to keeping moisture in your lawn.
Once all decisions had been made, we sourced the materials and got to work. The first job was to dig up the old garden using our digger and other tools. There were some challenges, including a couple of pretty hefty tree roots, but we got the job done in good time. Next, we lay the bases for the natural turf and the patio. We always take our time with this step, because building a proper base will ensure that your garden lasts a long time and protects it from flooding and sagging.
We then carefully laid the patio stones. We like to treat this step like a work of art – it takes patience and concentration to get every stone lined up correctly and secured in place. This is especially true when there is a split-level design as was the case with this project. We also paid a lot of attention to the black stone borders, which came out really nicely and framed the white stone patio beautifully, adding a really classy feel. Lastly, we installed the subsurface drip irrigation system and laid the natural turf.
Thankfully, there were no major challenges with this project. We’ve done plenty of this type of garden renovation – you can see a small sample of our work in our gallery or recent projects. We finished the job on time and within budget. Digging up the old garden and laying the patio were the two most time-consuming elements, as is often the case. Digging takes some time because of the labour required (especially when there are large tree roots involved) and the patio because of our meticulous approach to laying patio stones (we pride ourselves on creating beautiful patios that last!)
We’re glad to say that the customers were extremely happy with their new garden and patio. As you can see from the photos, everything was completed to a high standard, and the outdoor space was truly transformed.
