We recently installed a new patio & garden steps in Esher for a very friendly customer in Esher, Surrey. They wanted a brand-new patio, with several sets of garden steps leading down through their rock garden to the lower garden.
We instantly had a great rapport with the client. They were looking for patio installers in Esher and had asked for a free quote after seeing our gallery, recent projects, and many 5* reviews. After meeting with them and chatting through what they were after, we got to work putting together a design and a quote. It all started with a vision that we created alongside the client. The client wanted a seamless connection between the house and the lower garden, creating a more user-friendly and inviting outdoor space. We spent time sketching various designs, considering materials, and double-checking local regulations, before presenting our ideas to the client.
We felt it was important that the new patio & garden steps in Esher blended seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, especially the rock garden that the steps would cut through. Our design ensured that both main sets of garden steps flowed down through the slanted rock garden with style and subtlety, complementing the overall look of the garden.
As always, we presented some sample materials to the client to get a feel for what kind of look and durability they wanted. We’re happy to install any type of paving stone, but we’ll always make recommendations if requested. For this project, the client wanted to go with grey sandstone as it complemented the surrounding rock garden. We agreed that this was a great choice due to the aesthetic it brought to the project and the fantastic durability sandstone offers. We always recommend durable materials, and we provide a warranty on all our groundwork and artificial grass installations.
In terms of the patio pattern, the client agreed that a running bond pattern, also known as a stretcher bond or offset pattern, would look best. Different spaces and materials often suit different paving patterns, so we always like to look at the project before making a decision on it.
Once the design and materials were approved and sourced, our team cracked on with the project. We dug out the area before laying a solid foundation, and then carefully laid the paving stones and built the steps. We didn’t rush the installation because we wanted to create a perfect finish, and as you can see from the photos, every slab was cut, laid, and fixed with precision. We fitted adequate drainage with a slender and stylish drain grating running along the front of the main patio to prevent flooding. We also cut neat holes for the existing drain pipes running down from the house.
I’m glad to say that, despite being quite a complex area, there were no hiccups along the way, and we finished the project on time and within budget. The client was extremely happy with the quality of our work, and they left us a lovely 5-star review on Google, which you can read below.
