We recently had the pleasure of working with a delightful homeowner in Weybridge, Surrey, to create a stunning new patio area. Their vision was to create a large, smart and modern patio that surrounded the back and side of their house. An area that would complement the property whilst providing a place to relax, entertain, and enjoy their lovely garden away from the lawn itself.
Our initial talks with the client were friendly (as always) and productive. They reached out to us after browsing our online portfolio, which showcases some of our recent landscaping projects in Surrey and Berkshire. They also read a few of our recent project blogs and 5* Google Reviews, which gave them further confidence in our work. Following a pleasant chat about their vision during a free consultation, we set about developing a bespoke design and a transparent quotation. We were thrilled when they chose our team at LG Pro Landscaping to bring their outdoor dream to life. It’s always rewarding to know our passion and expertise resonate with homeowners looking to enhance their properties.
The heart of this project was to design a patio that not only looked beautiful but also functioned seamlessly with the existing garden layout. The client envisioned a spacious, level area directly accessible from their back doors, providing a natural flow from indoors to out. There needed to be steps up to each door, and the clients were also keen to have modern edging separating the patio from the garden and pebble borders separating it from the house. We spent time meticulously planning the dimensions, considering the sunlight patterns throughout the day, and ensuring the design complemented the style of their home.
Material selection was a key part of the process. We presented the client with a range of high-quality paving options, discussing the unique characteristics and aesthetic qualities of each. While we are able to install various types of paving, we offer our expert advice to guide clients’ decisions on request. For this Weybridge project, the client gravitated towards a beautiful white porcelain, which is one of our favourite materials to use due to its modern, stylish look and great durability. For the borders, they went for red brick edging on the garden side and a decorative stone border on the house side.
When it came to the laying pattern, the client expressed an interest in several of our previous projects, where we used a staggered ‘running bond’ pattern. This design offers a clean and contemporary aesthetic with strong structural integrity. It requires precision during installation, but the resulting look is well worth the effort. We always encourage clients to explore different patterns to find one that truly reflects their personal style and enhances their outdoor space, but this one seems to be a common favourite.
Once the design and materials were finalised, our skilled team got to work. We began by carefully preparing the ground, ensuring a stable and level sub-base for the new patio. The porcelain paving stones were then laid with meticulous attention to detail, each piece carefully positioned to create the staggered running bond pattern. We understand that the longevity and beauty of a patio lie in the quality of the installation, so we took our time to ensure a flawless finish. We also paid due attention to drainage, ensuring that rainwater will be managed effectively to protect the integrity of the patio for years to come.
We are delighted to say that the project progressed smoothly, and we completed the new patio on schedule and within the agreed budget. The transformation of the garden was remarkable, and the client was absolutely thrilled with their new outdoor living space. The time spent laying the red brick edging paid off, as this feature framed the patio perfectly and provided a sophisticated contrast to the white porcelain that complemented the overall look of the property.
